A musician, a composer, an orthodontist, an artist
Daxter Yeo (杨其伦 / 양치륜) is an Australian composer and orthodontist whose multicultural roots—born in Hong Kong to a Singaporean father and South Korean mother—have deeply informed his musical identity. Raised in Singapore before relocating to Australia, Daxter began studying piano at the age of three and was immersed early in orchestral performance through his formative years with the Singapore Youth Orchestra.
He holds both the Licentiate and Fellowship Diplomas in Music from Trinity College London, and was a former scholar at the Royal College of Music in London, where he studied under acclaimed composers Simon Bainbridge and Joseph Horovitz. In Australia, he further refined his compositional craft under the mentorship of prominent composers Peter Sculthorpe and Colin Brumby.
Daxter’s compositional style is distinguished by its emotionally resonant blend of world music traditions, contemporary classical textures, and subtle jazz idioms. His music has been described as deeply expressive and cinematic, often exploring themes of nostalgia, healing, and cultural convergence. His works have been recognised in national and international competitions, reflecting a maturity of voice and a nuanced command of orchestration and form.
In parallel with his artistic pursuits, Daxter is also a dedicated healthcare professional. He holds qualifications in orthodontics from the University of Queensland and balances a dual career as a clinician, university lecturer, and freelance composer. His belief in the therapeutic power of music drives his creative vision: “Beautiful music is medicine for the soul—it can articulate what words alone cannot.”
